Surfing in Sri Lanka
When it comes to surfing in Sri Lanka, from October to April the South West Coast has perfect conditions and from April to October you should better go to the East Coast of the island. Helpful to know is that, when waves and weather are the best on the West Coast, it is rainy season in the East, when East Coast has the best conditions, it is the rainy season for the South West of the country.
When to come?
The official peak surf season in the south-west, around Weligama, is from the end of October to early April. Winds are offshore making clean waves, swells are consistently good and rain is at a minimum. The season then shifts up the south east coast towards Arugum Bay from April. Outside the official surfing season you still get some fantastic days in the water. For beginners Weligama is perfect all year round for learning to surf. For luxury accommodation always advisable to book early, especially over Christmas & New Year, for the rest we will most probably be able to find you something, there are some great new and revamped places for 2018-19.
